What is Banned Books Week?
Each year, libraries across North America celebrate Banned Books Week. This year the celebration takes place from September 18 - 28, 2013. It is a week that celebrates the freedom to read. The idea behind the celebration is to boycott censorship. As students, you should be able to read EVERYTHING! Come to the library this month and check out the banned book display. Each book is tagged with three facts; time period it was banned, location it was banned, and reason why it was banned. You just might be suprised which books have made the censorship list over the years... Harry Potter, to name just one! Take some time this month to check out a banned book for yourself!
